HUGO - The Locke brothers combined for 316 yards rushing and four touchdowns on Friday night to lead Hugo to a 28-3 win over Roland in a key District 3A-4 football game at Gene Nesbitt Stadium.

Delvonsha Locke, a junior tailback, rambled for 269 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries while sophomore quarterback Derrick Locke ran nine times for 67 yards and three TDs.

As a result, Hugo improved to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the district, edging Roland for the fourth and final playoff berth. The Buffaloes will travel to Berryhill next week in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to take on the District 3A-3 champions.

Roland finished its season with a 5-5 overall record and 3-4 mark in the district.

The Rangers got off to a bad start, turning the ball over on their first possession of the game. Hugo took over at the Roland 43 and took seven plays to capitalize. Delvonsha Locke got the touchdown on a three-yard run and Hugo led 7-0 with 7:38 left in the first quarter.

Roland took the ensuing kickoff and drove the ball down field. Justin Dowdy had a 27-yard run to move the chains and the Rangers got inside the Hugo 10 before the drive stalled. Ricky Acevado kicked a 25-yard field goal to pull Roland within 7-3 with 11:50 remaining in the second period.

Hugo responded with a five-play, 65-yard drive powered mainly by the running of Delvonsha, who carried the ball on the first four plays. Derrick eventually scored on an 18-yard run.

After Roland was forced to punt, Hugo extended its lead to 21-3 when Delvonsha broke loose for a 54-yard TD run.

The Buffaloes sealed the win in the fourth quarter with a one-yard touchdown run by Derrick at the 8:43 mark.

Roland's top rusher was Kyp Matlock, who moved from quarterback to tailback in the second half and gained 68 yards on 23 carries. Dowdy ran 11 times for 55 yards and fullback Jon Castleberry had 20 yards on four carries before injuring his ankle.
