Wrecks shut down Interstate-40 for two hours
Firefighters with the Roland Fire Department reported wrecks started happening around 5 p.m. on Monday. The department responded to four rollover accidents and eight total accidents within four hours, noting slick bridges were the cause. Firefighters said they were back out at midnight after a semi driver lost control of his truck while traveling over an icy overpass. Interstate-40 was closed down for around two hours while that accident was being cleared, according to reports. With more winter weather moving into the area today, police and emergency personnel are asking motorists to be mindful of the road conditions and to slow down. Several accidents were also reported on the west end of Sequoyah County.
