World’s largest refrigerator magnet

A few Fridays ago, the temperature was warm and the sun was shining so I decided to open the sunroof on the Ford Expedition on my way home from work.
As I pulled into my driveway, I pushed the button to close the sunroof and heard some noise but the glass wouldn’t close. Great! Just my luck.
I knew rain was forecast and I had to get the sunroof closed some way, some how. My trash bags weren’t the right size, and I didn’t have anything big enough in the vehicle to cover the opening, so I went inside to see if I could locate anything that might work.
That’s when I saw it hanging on my refrigerator – what I refer to as the “world’s largest refrigerator magnet.” It’s actually the car sign magnet left over from when I was the Vian Christmas Parade Marshal in 2020. There were two, one for each side of the vehicle, but one was at my office in Vian, so I’d have to make do with what I had.
I peeled it off and attached it to the top of the open sunroof, hoping by improvising would solve the problem at hand, and it worked.
I did my part by not leaving the house all weekend, and was more than relieved when the rain bypassed our area and moved on. I always knew the car magnets would come in handy one day, and I was so proud of myself for saving them for this moment.
On my way back to work Monday morning, I was confident I could make it without losing the magnet. I fired up the Expedition, backed out and started moving down the road. After getting up to about 25 mph, the magnet began to bend and fold over. As the other side went up, I grabbed it just in time before it whipped off the top of the sunroof. I held on as I limped my way into work, holding onto it for dear life, but I made it.
One of our press guys, Josh Drew, was nice enough to stop by and fix it for me, which was no easy task. He also let me in on a little secret: there were two more magnetic signs (bigger than mine) on the door of Your TIMES in case I ever needed them. I have to admit, I feel like I hit the jackpot, but I’ve also grown wiser since then. I just don’t open the sunroof anymore – problem solved.
