HARTSHORNE — While the Roland Rangers did not score in the team’s lone preseason scrimmage Friday night against the Spiro Bulldogs and the host Hartshorn Miners, Roland second-year and former player Austin Cantrell was pleased with how his defensive unit performed.
“Defensively, we did better than we did at this point last year,” Cantrell said. “We stopped the run a lot better.”
If there was one concern, it was starting the scrimmage too sluggishly.
“We need to work on starting faster,” Cantrell said. “We started slow, and we weren’t ready to play. That was the big thing I saw. We have to start off faster.”
The Rangers will begin their season with their annual rivalry game against the Muldrow Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ranger Stadium.
