Webbers Falls, Gore teams split local match-up
The visiting Webbers Falls High School basketball teams split their road games across the Arkansas River with the host Gore squads Tuesday night at Gore Event Center.
The Pirates won 35-24 after the Lady Warriors took the opener over the Lady Pirates 50-39.
In the boys’ game, the Pirates (6-6) trailed 9-4 after a quarter, but slowly started the comeback in the second period as they outscored the Warriors (4-6) in the second quarter 12-9 to cut the Webbers Falls lead to 18-16 at halftime. A 10-4 third quarter for Gore put the Pirates ahead 26-22 going into the final period.
For the game, Bryon McDuffie scored a gamehigh 11 points and Journey Shells added 10 points to lead Gore, followed by Burr Jaymes with six points, Tate Brooksher with five points and Cain Cooper with three points.
In defeat, Shelby Maddux led Webbers Falls with 10 points, followed by Stryker Chappell with seven points, Braydan Robinson with four points and Luke Pierce with three points.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Warriors (6-4) jumped out to a 13-5 lead after a period, but the Lady Pirates (2-9) tried to mount a secondquarter comeback as they outscored Webbers Falls 12-10 in the period to cut Gore’s deficit to 23-17 at the break. However, the Lady Pirates could get no closer.
Webbers Falls outscored Gore 13-9 in the third quarter to up the Lady Warriors’ lead to 36-26 heading into the final period.
For the game, Teralynn Colston led all scorers with a game-high 20 points to pace Webbers Falls, followed by Cheyenne Herrier with seven points, Abby Pense, Lextyn Chappell and Bailey Ward with six points each and Bridgette Baer with five points.
In defeat, Natalie Casteel scored 13 points and Rayleigh Moore added 10 points to lead Gore, followed by Emily Davis with eight points, Paige Curran and River Shoemake with three points each and Tristen Colbert with two points.
