Lady Diamond powerlifters become Sallisaw’s first female state qualifiers
TISHOMINGO — Sallisaw Lady Diamonds powerlifters Macie Gremillion and Jimma Carlin made history Tuesday as they became the first-ever Sallisaw females to qualify for the Class 4A State Meet, which will be Monday in Durant.
At the Class 4A Regional High School Meet, Gremillion was fourth in the heavyweight division, while Carlin placed ninth in the junior high division and garnered an at-large bid to state.
Two other Lady Diamonds high school lifters competed at Tuesday’s regional meet as Delaney Compton was 11th out of 50 lifters in the 168-pound division, while Makenna Bormann was 12th out of 61 lifters in the 150-pound division.
Besides Carlin, Sallisaw had four other Lady Diamonds JH lifters compete in the JH portion of the regional meet — Sydney Busch, Kadence Watts, Braylee McEver and Sadie Tyler.
The girls coaches are Hillary Gehrke and Sheena Compton.
The Black Diamonds powerlifters will be in their regionals next week at Hartshorne as the junior high lifters will compete Wednesday and the high school lifters on Thursday.
The boys are coached by Aaron Compton and Brandon Tyler.
