Black Diamonds split first 2 games, Lady Diamonds fall twice to start campaign
The Sallisaw Black Diamonds soccer team split their first two matches of the season, losing Friday night 9-2 at Van Buren, Ark., but winning their home opener 6-2 over Inola on Tuesday night at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
However, the Lady Diamonds are still looking for win No. 1 in 2024 after losing Friday night 2-0 at Van Buren and losing their home opener 4-1 to Inola on Tuesday evening.
In the boys’ win over Inola, Wes Rodriguez scored four of the six goals for the Black Diamonds (1-1), while Cesar Morales and Mikey Maust each scored a goal.
In the boys’ loss to Van Buren, Rodriguez scored both goals.
While the Lady Diamonds (0-2) were shut out Friday night, the first goal of the season came compliments of Bella Morales in Tuesday evening’s home opener.
The Sallisaw soccer teams will be home tonight for matches against Gentry, Ark., at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium. The girls’ match will begin at 5 p.m., with the boys’ match following at approximately 7 p.m.
