Black Diamonds get home district win over Dove Science
The Sallisaw Black Diamonds soccer team returned from Spring Break with a 9-2 home district win over the Dove Science Raptors on Tuesday night at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
The Black Diamonds (4-1 overall, 2-0 in district play) jumped out to a 5-0 lead, thanks to two goals by Wes Rodriguez and a goal apiece from Wyatt Allen, Brecken Hennessee and Kash Keepes. Rodriguez and Cesar Morales each picked up a first-half assist.
The Black Diamonds scored the first four goals of the second half, two by Rodriguez and one apiece by Brian Castor and Phillip Hennessee — with Hennessee’s coming on a penalty kick. Jodai Sama Salinas and Morales had second-half assists.
The Raptors scored their two goals late in the second half — one with 8:43 remaining and the other with 5:56 left to play.
Sallisaw used two goalkeepers. Cameron Holmes started and recorded two saves, all coming in the second half as the Raptors did not record a shot on goal in the first half. Back-up goalie Elijah Hill had three saves during the final 10 minutes of the match.
The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds and Black Diamonds were slated to entertain district foe Tulsa Regent Prep on Thursday night at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium, then the Lady Diamonds will have a 5:30 p.m. Tuesday road district match against Porter Consolidated.
