Steam locomotive travels through county
The Empress 2816, a 4-6-4 Hudson-type steam locomotive built in 1930, traveled through Sequoyah County on Wednesday on its way to Shreveport, La. as part of its historic Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour, which kicked off on April 24 in Calgary, Alta. A spokesperson for Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) said the tour will end on June 4 in Mexico City, bringing the story of CPKC’s North American railway history and compelling future to life for rail fans as it travels across CPKC’s network. This is the first ever steam-powered passenger train in North America to travel through Canada, the U.S. and Mexico in a single trip.
