City pursuing ‘separation agreement’ with Skelton
The Sallisaw City Council at a special meeting on Monday unanimously approved Ward 2 Commissioner Josh Bailey’s “motion, as per request of the city manager, to enter into a separation agreement.”
Pending finalization of the separation agreement, Keith Skelton’s 30-year employment with the city has come to an end.
The motion was made following a 40-minute executive session which included Bailey; commissioners Ronnie Lowe of Ward 1, Julian Mendiola of Ward 3 and Brad Hamilton of Ward 4; Mayor Ernie Martens; City Manager Keith Skelton; and City Attorney John Robert Montgomery.
But when the special meeting reconvened following the behind-closed-doors discussions, Skelton’s absence was noticeable.
Although no details were provided in the public meeting, the wording of Bailey’s motion seemed to indicate that the request for a separation agreement was Skelton’s. No timetable was offered regarding when terms of the separation agreement will be discussed.
