Tribe contributes $120,000 for aquatics center, skate park
Cherokee Nation District 5 Tribal Councilor E.O. “Junior” Smith and District 6 Councilor Daryl Legg have been working with Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and the City of Sallisaw to provide infrastructure funds for a new $6 million aquatics center and skate park. Last Wednesday, Councilor Legg, Cherokee Nation Deputy Principal Chief Bryan Warner, and Deputy Secretary of State Taralee Montgomery presented city officials with $120,000 to help defray expenses for the new project. According to Sallisaw City Manager Keith Skelton, residents approved a bond issue prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the project is now set to begin.
