The 2023 Big 12 runner-up, OSU (14 first-place votes) was edged out by first-place Utah (20 first-place votes) and second-place Kansas State (19 firstplace votes). No other team received more than five votes for first or more than 800 total points in the poll.
It marks the second time in the past three years that the Cowboys have been selected in the top three of the preseason poll. OSU has also played in two of the past three Big 12 Championship games.
Kansas was fourth with 772 points and got five first-place votes and Arizona was fifth (762 points, three first-place votes.
Rounding out the remaining teams, Iowa State was sixth (661 points), West Virginia was seventh (581), Central Florida was eighth (551), Texas Tech was ninth (532), Texas Christian University was 10th (436), Colorado was 11th (400), Baylor was 12th (268), Brigham Young University was 13th (215), Cincinnati was 14th (196), Houston was 15th (157) and Arizona State was 16th (141).
