Local race horse wins Speedhorse Futurity
Local race horse Ima Fancy Eye, owned by Shania and Terry Dale Cox and trained by Rhonda Valvidia, won last Saturday’s Speedhorse Futurity, which took place at Tulsa’s Fair Meadows Race Track. The winning jockey was Jesus Salazar. The win was the local racehorse’s fifth straight and sixth victory this year. Ima Fancy Eye recorded a 91 speed index in winning the event.
Ima Fancy Eye’s victory paid $4.20 to win, $3.60 to show and $3.20 to place as well as earning the racehorse $76,028 of the overall $200,074 of the purse and increased its total winnings so far this year to $152,667.
“This moment has been so surreal to me,” Shania Cox said. “I have so many emotions over this little grey colt. He is carrying so many hopes and dreams down those race tracks. The opportunity to own an animal that brings so many people joy is such a blessing from God. The chance to share the experience and excitement with so many people who truly root for our success is also a blessing I can’t thank God enough for.”
“I am very thankful to God, my husband Sammy and my daughter and son-in-law Shania and Terry Dale Cox for allowing me this opportunity,” Valvidia said. “This is an exciting ride. Ima Fancy Eye opener is a little horse with a big heart and impressive ability. Ima Fancy Eye ran a great race. When the gate opened and the V split he broke and the race was his. The Speedhorse Futurity is a dream fulfilled, both mother and daughter. Plus, I have a win photo to match Sammy’s last year. My husband also is a trainer who won the Speedhorse Futurity last year. Now, we have his and her photos.”
