During its first 50 years from 1949 through the end of the millennium, Sallisaw Memorial Hospital was the healthcare lifeblood of eastern Oklahoma. Opening its doors on Aug. 21, 1949, with four nurses, 31 beds and the most modern equipment available, the medical facility was the gem of the city, if not the county.
