Vian Wrestling Club medals at Tahlequah Open
TAHLEQUAH — Several Vian Wrestling Club members won medals at last Saturday’s Tahlequah Open.
Daxton Stewart won the championship at 80 pounds in the age 10-and-younger division after beating Viking Wrestling Club’s Gabriel Shuemake by pinfall. Stewart made the finals with a pinfall win over Honey Badgers Wrestling Club’s Tripp Eldridge in 1:57 in the quarterfinals and a major decision over Brushy Wrestling Club’s Rylan Henry in the semifinals.
The Vian Wrestling Club crowned two champions in the age 6-and-younger division, 43-pounder Kainen Hunter and 52-pounder Keaton Gregory.
Hunter defeated Hilldale Youth Wrestling Club’s 9-3 in the Round of 32, pinned Raw Wrestling Club’s Huxley Hill in 11 seconds in the Round of 16, got a major decision over Tiger Trained Wrestling’s Ridge Reynolds in the quarterfinals, pinned Henryetta Knights Wrestling Club’s Easton Kettle in 1:29 in the semifinals and pinned Viking Wrestling Club’s Aaron Spears in 1:48 in the finals.
The path Gregory took to the 52-pound, age 6-andyounger champion saw him pin Viking Wrestling Club’s Wyatt Pugh in 37 seconds in the Round of 16, pin Sallisaw Takedown Club’s Cristian Pagan II in 16 seconds in the quarterfinals, pin Runestone’s Owen Edwards in 1:38 in the semifinals and pin Hurricane Wrestling Academy’s Kevin Harris in 1:54 in the title match.
In the age 8-and-younger novice division, 58-pounder Nolan Thomas finished third after a 7-6 win over Raw Wrestling Club’s Henry Ryan. Thomas opened the tournament with a pinfall win over Salina Wrestling Club’s Stryker Hawk in 1:27 in the Round of 16 before getting a pinfall victory over Sallisaw Takedown Club’s Miko Flynn in 54 seconds. In the semifinals, Tahlequah Wrestling Club’s Lane Caughron got a major decision over Thomas, who got a technical fall over Hawk to get to the third-place match.
Jett Constant, who wrestled at 67-70 pounds in the age 8-and-younger novice division, finished third. He opened the tournament with a 3-2 quarterfinal loss to Bartlesville Wrestling Club’s Izahyah Park before winning three straight matches to get third place — beating Morris Wrestling Association’s Rylee Brewer by major decision, defeating Bartlesville Wrestling Club’s Aiden Calvert by pinfall in 52 seconds and beating Tulsa Blue T Panthers wrestler Katelee Cole by pinfall in 2:12 to claim third place.
In the girls age 10-and-younger division, Madalynn Turman, wrestling at 82-88 pounds, placed fourth after losing by technical fall to JWC’s Kaili Prose in the third-place match. She got to the third-place match by beating Tulsa Blue T Panthers wrestler Zoie Gregory by pinfall in 3:31, losing her semifinal match 11-10 to Skiatook Youth Wrestling’s Coralena Voss in the semifinals and beating Tiger Trained Wrestling’s Remi Fisher by pinfall in 28 seconds in the consolation semifinals.
In the boys age 10-and-younger novice division, Josh Constant, wrestling at 73 pounds, also finished fourth. He opened with a quarterfinal win over Brushy Wrestling Club’s Carson Li more by pinfall in 21 seconds, but he lost in the semifinals by pinfall to Morris Wrestling Association’s Noah Nicely. After winning his consolation semifinal match by pinfall in 1:52 over Henryetta Knights Wrestling Club’s Niko Procter, Constant lost by pinfall to Skiatook Youth Wrestling’s Driver Baker in the third-place match.
Thomas Sandlin, wrestling at 58 pounds in the age 8-and-younger division, got the organization’s its third fourth-place finish. He opened with pinfall wins over Warrior Wrestling Club’s Kyson Overholser in 23 seconds in the Round of 16 and over Sallisaw Takedown Club’s Patrick Real in the quarterfinals before losing by pinfall to Tiger Trained Wrestling’s Nash McCuistion in the semifinals. After beating Hurricane Wrestling Academy’s Nicholas Evans by pinfall in the consolation semifinals, Sandlin lost by pinfall to Bartlesville Wrestling Club’s Jaxson Wright in the third-place match.
In the same division, 5 5-pound wrestler Luke Sandlin went 2-2, beating Collinsville Cardinal Youth Wrestling’s Creek Campbell by major decision in the Round of 16 and defeating Sperry Wrestling Club’s Rodger Solt by pinfall in seven seconds in the quarterfinals but losing to Bartlesville Wrestling Club’s James Evans by pinfall in the semifinals and losing 13-8 in the consolation semifinals to Skiatook Youth Wrestling’s Jack Crain.
Wrestling at 64 pounds in the age 8-and-younger novice division, Kayden Perceful went 1-2, beating Henryetta Knights Wrestling Club’s Ryder Sumka by major decision in the consolation quarterfinals, but losing by pinfall to Morris Wrestling Association’s Kendall Dean in the quarterfinals and falling by technical fall to JWC’s Gunnar Humbyrd in the consolation semifinals.
Asher Stewart, wrestling at 46-49 pounds in the age 8-and-younger novice division, went 2-2, losing to Hurricane Wrestling Academy’s Olivia Jones by pinfall in the Round of 16, beating Viking Wrestling Club’s Raelynn Gibbens by technical fall in the consolation side, defeating Raw Wrestling Club’s Elliot Gann 14-10 in the consolation semifinals and losing to Jones by major decision in the consolation semifinals.
At 105 pounds in the age 8-andyounger novice decision, James Constant beat Gore Pirates Youth Wrestling’s Jeremy Brown by pinfall in 1:32 but lost to Hilldale Youth Wrestling Club’s Rowan Clagg by pinfall.
In the boys age 15-and-younger division, 155-pound wrestler Axl Branham beat Pitbull Wrestling Academy’s Jarius Johnson 7-6 but lost by pinfall to Wagoner Takedown Club’s Conner McCartney.
In the age 12-and-younger division, 73-pounder Jestin Rosson won both of his matches, beating Wagoner Takedown Club’s Jake Potts 8-7 and pinned Ironman Wrestling Club’s Jax Henderson in 2:20.
Also in the age 12-and-younger division, Rocky Ford split hit matches at 110 pounds, beating Sperry Wrestling Club’s Carson Riley by major decision but losing by pinfall to Grove Takedown Club’s Sawyer Dor ton.
In the same division, 88-pound wrestler Gage Hines lost all three of his matches, losing by pinfalls to Chandler Takedown Club’s Johnny Ralston, Raw Wrestling Club’s Matthew Meredith and to Viking Wrestling Club.
Also in the age 12-and-younger division, Lex Branham lost twice by pinfall to Johnson.
Anders Gilbreath, wrestling at 64 pounds in the age 10-and-younger division, lost to Tiger Trained Wrestling’s Mason Woodman by pinfall in the quarterfinals and lost by major decision to Fort Gibson Youth Wrestling’s Gunner Jenkins in the consolation semifinals.
At 70 pounds in the age 10-andyounger division, Zayn Vinson lost by pinfall to Wagoner Takedown Club’s Ronald Branchcomb in the quarterfinals and lost by technical fall to Brushy Wrestling Club’s Abel Glover.
Creede Pair, wrestling at 80 pounds in the age 10-and-younger division, was defeated 6-0 by Gabriel Shuemake in the quarterfinals before losing by pinfall to Henry in the consolation semifinals.
At 85 pounds in the age 10-andyounger division, Reid Locust won by pinfall over Raw Wrestling Club’s Nolan Quillman in 1:13 in the Round of 16 before losing in the quarterfinals 3-0 to Salina Wrestling Club’s Hayden Stanford and losing by pinfall to Locust Grove’s Hunter Jackson in the consolation side.
Kody Perry, wrestling at 90 pounds in the age 10-and-younger division, went 1-2, beating Viking Wrestling Club’s Garrett Cranfield by pinfall in 2:41 but losing by pinfall to both Viking Wrestling Club’s Noah Shuemake and Hilldale Youth Wrestling Club’s Korbyn Johnson.
At 64 pounds in the age 8-and-younger division, Dallas Rice lost by pinfall to Salina Wrestling Club’s Callan Carson in the quarterfinals and fell 12-6 to Tulsa Blue T Panthers wrestler Ryett Rinn in the consolation side.
In the age 6-and-younger division, Raiden Davis, wrestling at 49 pounds, went 3-2. After losing by pinfall to Tiger Trained Wrestling’s Rhett Woodman, Davis defeated Tulsa Blue T Panthers wrestler Axel Gregory 5-4, Hilldale Youth Wrestling Club’s Kenneth Silkey 8-5 and Raw Wrestling Club’s Chevy Weiden 8-2 in the consolation quarterfinals before losing by pinfall in the consolation semifinals to Checotah Mascats wrestler Maverick Lee-Degraffenreid.
Knox Branham, wrestling at 55 pounds in the age 6-and-younger division lost 9-6 to Tulsa Blue T Panthers wrestler Cooper Dewey in the quarterfinals and was pinned by Dewey’s teammate, Braylon Grigg, in the consolation quarterfinals.
