Walters reveals new pro-Bible standards for history classes

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma education officials have proposed new academic standards for K-12 social studies that would include mandatory instruction on biblical principles and patriotic ideals.

The state’s initial attempts this year to require Bible teaching in public schools already generated controversy and legal challenges, but on the whole, the proposed standards cover similar ground as Oklahoma’s current mandates for history, geography, economics and civics instruction.
