Looking back at 2024, the year in review
Looking back on the year that was, Sallisaw and Sequoyah County were witness to a wide range of happenings. From the push by irate citizens to oust Sallisaw City Manager Keith Skelton after six years as the city’s administrative head — pressure to which the 30-year city employee ultimately succumbed — to the shocking double homicide at LaPerry’s Propane on U.S. 64 — which touched off an intense, multi-state manhunt that resulted in the capture of Stacy L. Drake, the Alabama convicted felon who terrorized residents in three states in a five-week crime spree — to the discovery of human remains near Lake Tenkiller — bones that could belong to Matthew Fagan of Webbers Falls, who disappeared more than eight years ago while hiking with a group of friends — to the demolition of the former Agent Funeral Home building adjacent to the county courthouse to make room for the construction of a new annex building, 2024 had something for just about everyone.
