Central teams get Big 8 Conference sweep over Vian
The Central High School basketball teams got a Big 8 Conference home sweep of the Vian squads Tuesday night at the Central Gym.
The Lady Tigers began the night with a 52-13 victory over the Lady Wolverines, then the Tigers completed the sweep with a 58-44 win over the Wolverines.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Tigers (10-3 overall, 1-1 in Big 8 Conference play) jumped out to a 14-3 lead after a quarter, which became a 27-6 halftime advantage and a 40-11 lead entering the final period.

For the game, Haley Cheek scored a game-high 12 points to lead Central, followed by Ayrland Jiles with eight points, Hadlie Woods and Cambree Bair with six points each, Alexxus Bolin and Paris Campbell each with five points, Charlie Petree with four points, Sarah Buchanan with three points, Cheyenne Busch with two points and Ryleigh Pierce with a free throw.
In defeat, Shelbie Glass led the Lady Wolverines (2-10, 1-2) with four points, followed by Rebel Simon with three points and Kiah Richardson, Rayleigh Terrill and Aliyah Tucker with two points apiece.
In the boys’ game, the Tigers (9-4, 1-1) virtually led all the way, taking an 18-15 lead after the first quarter en route to a 35-25 halftime advantage and a 50-34 lead after three periods. The Wolverines (6-6, 1-2) tried to mount a rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 10-8 over the final eight minutes but coming up short.
For the game, Aidan Sainer scored 15 points and Josh Brunk added 12 points to lead Central, followed by Noah Buzzard with eight points, Paitton Merrill with seven points, Braxin Goodson with six points, Gavin Randolph with five points, Hardy Buzzard with four points and Jake Woods with a free throw.
In defeat, Joe O’Neal scored a gamehigh 18 points and Masyn Wright added 17 points to lead Vian, followed by Jeremiah Marshall with five points and Trace Sanders with four points.
