Sallisaw baseball player signs with Oklahoma Wesleyan
Sallisaw baseball player Creed Nelson signed a letter of intent with Oklahoma Wesleyan University in a signing ceremony Wednesday morning at Paul Post Field House.
“It felt like the best fit for me for both baseball and enrollment wise,” Nelson said. “That’s pretty much why I chose it.”
“It’s a good representation of our program getting him signed,” Sallisaw baseball coach Curtis Wartchow said. “He’s going to a good university. He’s a good student and a hard-working kid. He works hard in the weight room and on the field.”
By signing with OKWU, it will get to fulfill a dream of Nelson’s.
“(Playing college baseball) has been a very big dream of mine,” he said. “I’ve been working so hard and putting in the extra time to make the effort to go play (college baseball). I’m going to get to go up there and play college baseball. It’s very exciting to be able to go up there in the fall to compete and play. I’m looking forward to it.”
Wartchow knows him going to OKWU will be a big loss for the Black Diamonds, but he knows Nelson will do great things for the Eagles.
“It’s going to be a big loss,” he said. “He’ll be very effective for their program. He’ll probably have a chance to play right off, produce and represent us.”
