Sallisaw football player signs letter of intent with NSU
Sallisaw Black Diamonds football player Zyler Rogers signed a letter of intent with Northeastern State University in a signing ceremony Wednesday morning at Paul Post Field House.
“I always wanted to play football at the next level,” Rogers said. “I’m happy to go play at the next level and get my degree. I’m ready to get my life started.”
“Zyler had a great career here at Sallisaw,” Sallisaw football coach Brandon Tyler said. “I’m proud of him and the effort he put in, especially the last two years I’ve been here. He is being rewarded for his hard work. He’s getting to play at the next level. Northeastern had a great year this last year. They turned it around from previous years. He’s going to a great situation there at Tahlequah.”
One of the things that made NSU the choice is its engineering program.
“They had a degree in engineering that I wanted,” Rogers said. “Other schools that made me offers didn’t (have engineering degrees). It felt like home.”
Tyler said there is a lot of work ahead for Rogers once he gets to the next level.
“He has a lot of work to do still yet,” he said. “At the next level, the speed of the game is going to be faster. The kids will be a lot stronger. He’ll go into his freshman year and get red-shirted like everyone else (freshmen) and learn the system. He’ll get in the weight room and go from there. I know he’s looking forward to it, and I’m looking forward to go watch him on Saturdays.”
