‘Getting Back to Basics’ gathering section begins February 22
The final section of the Tahlequah John Hair Cultural Center and Keetoowah Museum’s “Getting Back to Basics” series begins in February. It’s hard to say which one of the sections is most popular - canning, quilting or gathering, because they are all well attended, fun and valuable. The classes will begin with buckbrush gathering on the UKB grounds on Feb. 22. After gathering, part of the process is boiling the bark for about an hour so that it can be stripped and peeled, and bound into bundles for baskets. Some participants enjoy this for the opportunity the downtime gives for visiting, remembering past gatherings with family, and sharing these memories.
