Gans places 6th at 8-Man State Meet

SHAWNEE — Gans Grizzlies powerlifter Anthony Vasquez placed sixth at Tuesday’s 8-Man State Meet, which was moved from its original date of Wednesday due to threatening weather conditions.

Vasquez missed by five pounds in placing fifth, the final spot to earn a medal, and 15 pounds from finishing fourth.

One other local powerlifter placed in Tuesday’s meet as Webbers Falls Warriors’ junior high heavyweight powerlifter Brison Thomason was third. Vasquez and the Warriors, along with the Muldrow Bulldogs, Roland Rangers and Lady Rangers and Gore Pirates, will next compete in the Iron Hog Classic, which will take place Feb. 21 in Panama.

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds powerlifting team will next compete at the Poteau Girls Invitational on Wednesday, while the Black Diamonds will participate in the Poteau Boys Invitational on Feb. 21.
