Sallisaw are state wrestling runners-up, crown 3 state champions
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Sallisaw Black Diamonds wrestling team finished as state runnersup in the team standings at the Class 4A State Tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday at Oklahoma City’s Jim Norick State Fair Arena.
The Black Diamonds finished with 79 points, and that was thanks to four wrestlers who placed — with three of those being crowned state champions.
Cole Mayfield, a University of Central Oklahoma signee, ended his high school career as a three-peater as state champion, the last two of which were won as a Black Diamond after his first was as a Warner Eagle, as he won the 157-pound title.
Cason Craft repeated as a state champion, winning the 113-pound state title.
Bodie Adams, who was a state runner-up in 2024, got the gold this year as he was the state champion at 175 pounds.
A fourth Black Diamond also placed as Morgan Duke was third at 120 pounds.
Sallisaw’s fifth state qualifier, Cash Mayfield, lost his wrestle-in match at 150 pounds.
Vian heavyweight wrestler Garritt Hunt was a state runner-up in the Class 3A State Tournament.
The other two local wrestlers who made the Class 3A State Tournament, Vian 157-pounder Gunner Richey and Gore heavyweight Kaydin McCartney, each lost their respective wrestle-in match.
