Marble City School tours Big Toy Museum
There were plenty of oohs and aahs to go around — from children as well as adults — Thursday when students from Marble City School toured the Big Toy Museum in Sallisaw. There was something for everyone, and exhibits — ranging from vintage automobiles, firetrucks and big rigs to replica airplanes, motorcycles and memorabilia — often drew wide eyes and pointing as the tour snaked through the renovated former middle school.
Located at Main Street and Creek Avenue, the museum offers a trip down Memory Lane, especially for students recalling their school days in the repurposed building. The museum is open to the public 7-9 p.m. Fridays and 2-6 p.m. Saturdays. To schedule special visits for groups of 10 or more, or to reserve the meeting room at the museum, call 405-820-2517 after 1 p.m. The museum traces the legacy of transportation, with exhibits of 65 cars and trucks, a dozen motorcycles, tractors from the 1950s, firetrucks, replica airplanes and horse-drawn carriages.
