Mother, son injured in collision
A Vian woman and her son had to be transported to area hospitals on Saturday following a collision just east of Vian.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Spencer Schmille #353 of the Sequoyah County detachment of Troop C reported Stephanie Amaro, 33, was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima three-tenths of a mile east of Tower Road when the collision occurred just before noon.
Schmille said Amaro was transported by Air Evac to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where she was admitted in critical condition with head injuries.
Amaro’s passenger, her 8-year-old son, also of Vian, was reportedly transported by Pafford EMS to St. Francis Children’s Hospital in Tulsa, where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.
The trooper said the cause of the collision remains under investigation as of press time. He said it is unknown whether or not Amaro was wearing her seatbelt and the minor was reportedly not wearing one. He reported the occupants were ejected, according to the accident report.
Schmille was assisted by Lt. Sheldon Dobbs #116 of Troop C, Pafford EMS, Vian Police Department and McKey Fire Department.
